Job Description
Cordillera Metro District is looking for part-time and full-time barn hands. Weekend availability preferred.
Job Duties
Care for horses and their environment. Provide maintenance of equestrian facilities.
Essential Functions
  • Distributes feeds, replenishes water, bedding.
  • Cleans stalls, pastures, facilities.
  • Waters horses and measures, mixes, feed and feed supplements.
  • Hand walks horses daily to and from stall/pastures.
  • Unloads and stores supplies.
  • Follows policies, instruction, and procedures given from the Barn Manager.
  • Reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Uses equipment and materials properly, including, if trained by supervisor, the 4x4, skid-steer, and tractor.
  • All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Horse experience preferred
  • Driver’s License Required.
Competencies
  • Must be able to inspect stables, paddocks and horses for cleanliness
  • Inspect horses for evidence of disease or injury, notify boarder and/or vet if medical attention is necessary. Assist veterinarian or owner in treatment of horse as necessary
  • Horse nutrition - hay quality, types of grains, supplements,
  • Horse behavior - horse handling including difficult horses, horse vices, horse safety, etc.
  • Ability to use measuring device and read fractions.
  • Able to use various hand tools
  • Ability to lift and also push overhead, pull and/or move up to 75 pounds independently.
Special Requirements
  • Work environment - Environmental conditions are 50% inside and 50% outside.
  • Physical demands - Physical ability to stand and walk for the majority of the shift.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
