Job Description
The Cordillera Metro District has an opening for a public safety officer. Overnight shifts may be available.
Job Duties
The Public Safety Officer must be creative and enjoy working within a small, fast-paced environment that is customer service and community-oriented. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities. Under general supervision, performs duties to ensure the safety and security of Cordillera residents, visitors and employees. The Public Safety Officer will project positive public relations with a strong focus on customer service, while always promoting a positive image of Cordillera and the Public Safety Department.
Essential Functions
  • Act as an Ambassador of Cordillera at all times.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with established policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Enforce and abide by all rules, regulations and policies of Cordillera established by CMD, DRB and the management of the Public Safety Department.
  • Address the public in a calm, professional and ethical manner; responding appropriately to guest requests and complaints in an accurate, courteous and prompt manner. • Respond to and enforce violations of local, state and federal laws and compliance with Cordillera policies, with respect to infractions occurring on Cordillera property and in the immediate perimeter area (includes parking lots).
  • Respond to security related incidents occurring on Cordillera property, mitigating and defusing situations.
  • Safeguard company assets, property, equipment and facilities against illegal and destructive acts.
  • Respond to medical related situations and incidents; will administer first aid and CPR assistance (within certification and training limits) when appropriate and arrange for emergency medical attention through the duty supervisor as necessary.
  • Respond to and control emergency situations; perform crowd control duties, administer first aid and CPR when appropriate (within certification and training limits), and arrange for emergency medical, fire and law enforcement response as determined necessary by Public Safety management.
  • While on patrol or at a stationary post, will be vigilant to observe, report and note any possible safety or hazardous situations.
  • Control access Cordillera through assigned gates; checking, logging and clearing authorized personnel and vehicles who present proper identification or passes when attempting to gain access to Cordillera. Conduct building inspections and patrol the community.
  • Respond to and manage all alarms i.e. intrusion, burglar, fire etc., as dispatched in coordination with the duty supervisor. Ensure proper use and security of Cordillera equipment; operate and maintain equipment and vehicles in accordance with established policies and procedures. Report to court as required and provide a professional, well versed presentation and appearance. Submit written reports, without exception, of all incidents and activities occurring on Cordillera property and in the immediate perimeter area (includes parking lots).
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the gates, and surroundings, and assisting in picking up trash. Maintain open and professional communication with shift supervisors and management. Maintain confidentiality and integrity of information disclosed, accidentally discovered or communicated as an Officer - with or without specific instructions to do so - of employees, guests and concession partners.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of information related to incidents or events involving the Cordillera to unauthorized personnel i.e. radio, television, newspapers and other press/media personnel. Patrols assigned areas in a vehicle or on foot, providing assistance and direction to Cordillera residents, visitors and employees.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must possess or be able to successfully complete basic first aid, CPR and AED training within a month of hire date and maintain these certifications set forth by the American Red Cross or equivalent association. Training is provided by the employer.

Special Requirements
  • The position can require moderate to strenuous activity.
  • Mandatory overtime is also required from time-to-time.
  • Shift work (days, evenings, weekend, including holidays) and outdoor work are required.
